Glasgow is a southern Kentucky city with a population of about 14,000 people according to the United States Census Bureau. Glasgow sits in Barren County and also serves as the county’s seat. Glasgow was established by the State Assembly in 1799 and was named as the county seat of a new county the same year. In 1803, a post office was established in Glasgow and the city received city rights in 1809. Glasgow serves as the principal city of the Glasgow Micropolitan Area.

Individuals passing through Glasgow will find there are many things to see and do around the city. Glasgow is well known for the many historic homes located around the city. Some of the homes were built in the early 1800s. Also located in Glasgow is Western Kentucky University. Although the university’s main campus was moved to neighboring Bowling Green, a regional campus is still located in Glasgow. While passing through the city individuals will want to drive along the streets of Downtown Glasgow. These streets are lined with beautiful, historic buildings that provide individuals a glimpse into the city’s rich history.

Glasgow is located in a climate that experiences warm, humid summers and cold, wet winters. Record thermostat readings during the months of summer have climbed well into the 100s. Although these temperatures are not necessarily common, it is wise for residents to be prepared for extreme weather by installing efficient cooling systems in their homes. These systems will help keep indoor temperatures at comfortable levels while warmer weather is present in the city.

Residents of Glasgow will also find it wise to invest in efficient heating systems. Average daytime temperature highs range from the mid to upper-40s during winter. Also, snowfall is a very common occurrence during the months of winter. By investing in efficient heating pumps or furnaces, residents will help ensure their homes remain comfortable and dry during the colder months of the year.
